About the Ensemble: Jazz/Pop Combos provide students with the opportunity to transcribe, compose, rehearse, and perform repertoire of their choosing. Students work with the instructor to develop materials and learn effective rehearsal strategies. Any genre of music welcomed.

About the Director: Matt Shevitz is an in-demand musician in the jazz, blues, and popular music scenes of Chicago area. He has performed alongside such internationally renowned jazz musicians as Dick Hyman, Ignacio Berroa, Howard Levy, Frank Capp, and Frank Wess along with blues/roots rock guitarist Eric Lindell and Ropeadope Records artists Spare Parts. Shevitz has performed at Jazz in the Park Festival (Milwaukee), Waterfront Blues Festival (Portland), Chicago Blues Festival, Lollapalooza and House of Blues in Chicago.  Matt is a contributor to DownBeat Magazine since 2009 with articles analyzing transcriptions of great jazz solos as well as jazz theory and effective practice habits. Matt is a professor and the Director of Jazz Ensembles at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, IL. He received a Doctor of Musical Arts in Jazz Performance degree from the Univ. of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Master of Music in Jazz Pedagogy from Northwestern Univ. and a Bachelor of Science in Music from the Univ. of Oregon.

About the Ensemble: Percussion Ensemble is a chamber ensemble that studies and performs repertoire written specifically for the percussion family as well as transcriptions adaptable to percussion. No audition necessary.

About the Director: Ben Wahlund is a Grammy nominated, award-winning music educator, composer and performer who lives in the Chicago area. He earned a master’s degree in Music Theory and Composition and a Performance Certificate in percussion from Northern Illinois University. His compositions have placed in numerous competitions, including the Quey Percussion Duo Annual Composition Contest and the Percussive Arts Society International Composition Contest. Wahlund is a percussion specialist for Naperville School District 203, where he directs the NCHS Drumshow, a high school percussion ensemble concert that draws more than 2,000. About the Ensemble: Guitar Ensemble features acoustic and electric guitars performing 20th century American music. No audition necessary.

About the Director: Chicago-based guitarist Steve Ramsdell performs commercial music, jazz classics, solo classical music, and original music as a leader. Some performance highlights include New Year’s Eve celebrations at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Steve’s original music at SPACE in Evanston, performances with Spider Saloff at the Iridium in New York, and shows with Matt Geraghty at Ondojazz in Lisbon and the Chicago Jazz Fest. Steve’s musical arrangements can be heard on Spider Saloff’s CD Like Glass, while his original compositions appear on his release Looking For… and his first CD Steve Ramsdell Group. As a teacher with decades of experience, Steve works with all levels of guitarists, striving to help students develop the skills needed to pursue their musical goals.

The DuPage Community Jazz Ensemble performs programs throughout the academic year as well as numerous off‐campus performances. The ensemble has accompanied guest artists such as Melissa Aldana, Wycliffe Gordon, Ignacio Berroa, Carl Allen, Dee Alexander, Fareed Haque, Jens Lindemann, Victor Garcia, and Mark Colby, is a frequent presence at the Elmhurst University Jazz Festival, has performed at the Jazz Showcase in Chicago, and in 2004 was recognized by the United States House of Representatives for its work on behalf of the Armed Forces Children’s Education Fund. Its repertoire spans more than a century of large jazz ensemble compositions, including original work from members of the ensemble.

DuPage Community Concert Band exists to embrace and express all of the beauty and glory we can share through playing great music. Concerts feature entertaining music for audiences, as well as stimulating the performer that is consistent with the representation and growth of the college and community band.

Rehearsal for the DuPage Community Concert Band are Monday nights, 7 to 9:30 p.m., Room 138 -McAninch Arts Center. Membership is open to high school graduates with windwood, brass or percussion experience or to anyone who is otherwise qualified musically to register. Auditions needed for chair placement, but no one refused membership. Call (630) 942-2048 for registration information.

About the Director: Mark A. Taylor is a conductor, educator, and performer in demand throughout the Great Lakes region, Dr. Taylor has taught with distinction at every level of study, ranging from elementary, middle, and high school to collegiate, amateur, and professional musicians. He is Music Director of Milwaukee Festival Brass, an award winning British-style brass band, and Music Director of the Waukegan Band, one of America’s oldest and most historic civic ensembles. He received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in 2016 from the University of North Texas. Prior to his doctoral study, he served five years as Director of Bands and Coordinator of Ensembles at Loyola University Chicago, and member of music education faculty at Roosevelt University. Dr. Taylor received the Master of Music degree from Northwestern University. He received his undergraduate degrees from the University of Notre Dame and also performed in the Concert Band, Orchestra, Liturgical Choir, Men’s Glee Club, and Collegium Musicum. Dr. Taylor performs as section percussionist with the internationally award-winning Chicago Brass Band. He and his wife and son reside in Lake Forest, IL.

Dr. O’Shea is a member of the American Choral Directors Association, the American Society of Composers Authors and Publishers, American Composers Forum, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia music fraternity.

Chamber Singers specialize in vocal chamber music of all periods with particular emphasis on Renaissance madrigal and motets, music of the 20th century, and the music of many cultures. Contemporary music includes major composers, avant-garde music and arrangements of folk, ethnic and popular music. This select ensemble includes voice majors, other music majors and other skilled singers.

Concert Choir is a non-auditioned ensemble that sings outstanding choral works of many styles, genres and eras. Repertoire includes short and medium-length works including folk, Gospel, classical, Broadway and contemporary works. Members come from all walks of campus life.
