Miss Hokusai is based on the life and works of Japanese artist and ukiyo-e painter Katsushika Hokusai, as seen from the perspective of his talented and fiercely independent daughter, Katsushika O-Ei. Set in 19^th century Edo, the animated film is presented in vignettes weaving together moments of Hokusai’s life including sharing the myth and inspiration behind his most famous painting “The Great Wave.” O-Ei is constantly under pressure to inspire her father to be a great artist, while her father is strict and accepts nothing less than perfection in her own works.
